You know those gorgeous Winter days at home, kids playing quietly, parents pottering, warm clothes, hot chocolate and that cozy feeling.
Yeah, it’s a good dream, but the reality is usually kids fighting with each other and demanding some sort of device. The house is trashed, everyone is cranky, and you’re like NO YOU CAN’T HAVE ANOTHER BISCUIT.
I always forget that I can actually chuck my kids out, Winter (In Australia) is a great time to be outside. So I tried it, and my kid was like, THERE’S NOTHING TO DO OUTSIDE.
So I made her a checklist (snap) and told her that she could watch Youtube when she had done all the things on it. And she never came back. She drew her bug, decorated some rocks, made a tent and then got lost in some awesome theatrical game with her brother.
The checklist never ended up getting finished, and that’s cool. It did its job, and she enjoyed her Winters day at home.
I hope it has the same effect on your kids.
