Did you know you could dry fruit under the griller?

June 10, 2014

Did you know you could make dried fruit under the griller? Well you can. I call this Papaya Jerky.

Dried Pawpaw

Did you know you could dry fruit under the griller?

I had two huge papayas and decided to dry them, until I googled it and realised how much of an ordeal it was (yeah, I don't have a dehydrator) I wasn't interested in soaking, baking for 6 hours, treating, drying outside and all the other things you have to do if you are going to be storing them for a few years, so I put it in the too hard basket.

But I had the idea it in my head and I knew the only way to get it out was to try it, so I bunged them under the griller and waited. And guess what (spoiler alert – you can see the pictures so you already know) they dried.

Are you on instagram?

Directions

Cut the papaya in half, scoop all the seeds out then slice it up in 0.5cm strips. Pop the griller on low for about half an hour. Flip them over and do the other side. It will take about an hour all up.

If you cut them thinner they will end up crunchy or thicker and they will be chewey. It's a bit of a chips or jerky situation. It is super easy and something a bit different. My mum thinks they would be great in a green salad but i just fed them to the bub. Maybe I'll put some in my next batch of Lunch Box Biscuits.

Happy Tuesday.

What a great idea to use up extra fruit. I’ll keep it in mind for when we next have an overflow! Thanks for linking with I’m Pinning Around! x
