Great Apps for creating quote images

October 8, 2015

How to create word images for instagram, well how I create them anyway.

Apps for creating beautiful quote images by Patchwork Cactus Blog

I have been teaching some workshops on Instagram this year, nothing big, just a group of small business people wanting to figure it out. It has been so much fun but also anxiety laden, I used to be a drama teacher and I never felt anything but excitement to teach the kids. But now it totally screws with my head, as does any sort of public speaking.

Anyway, I thought I would answer the most asked question from my workshop.

How do you make the word picture thingys?

The short answer is very simply, using apps on your phone. The long answer is below.

Sketches App. To make the background you see above, I used the paintbrush option in this app and painted the colours on. The pencil effects are a bit beyond my artistic level, I can't make them look good at all but the brush is a winner. When I'm done I just save it to my camera roll.

After Light App. If you want to do something fancy like turn a picture of flowers into a shape then the frame options on this app are for you. You can turn any picture into a circle, star, heart, cloud. And it can be really effective as a background for quotes.

Little Moments App. This is my favourite app for putting text on pictures, to make the above image I just grabbed the painted one from my camera roll and opened it in Little Moments. Then I popped the words on then chose what colour and size I wanted them to be. You can also use a photograph instead, edit it in here and add phrases or stamps. It is super simple to use.

A Beautiful Mess App. This app is similar to Little Moments but also really good if you just want to create an image from nothing because it has geometric shapes you can use to create backgrounds for words. It also has lots of great fonts and stamps too.

Little Moments is one of my favourite apps but I’ve never used any of the others. Will have to investigate. Thanks Mrs!
