The third tasty little treat to feature in my medicinal and magical properties of herbs and spices mini-series (that's what you call something when you're not sure if you can commit to making it a regular feature) is Basil. Enjoy xxoxo babs
Medicinal: Basil is great for stimulating digestion and getting your metabolism pumping. It also induces sweat to expel toxins, dissolves mucus and reduces fever. Just quietly; if you have parasitic worms, basil can stun, kill and send them packing. On a less-gross note, basil is a body and brain stimulant and can help relieve muscle and joint pain.
Magical/ Superstitious: Basil has long been used in Pagan religion as an aid in love-magic. Apparently if you want to up your chances of meeting a new lover, burning basil oil or incense will get you on track. Alternately, when worn around the neck or planted around the house, it encourages, protection, clairvoyance, purification and psychic development.
Random: If you are not a fan of insect repellent, fresh basil is a great alternative to keep the mosquitoes from munching. Just rub the oil or leaf on your skin or keep a plant on your veranda.
