You know those gorgeous school holiday days at home, kids playing quietly, parents pottering, swimmers, ice blocks and that relaxed feeling.
Yeah, it’s a good dream, but the reality is usually kids fighting with each other and demanding some sort of device. The house is trashed, everyone is cranky, and you’re like NO YOU CAN’T HAVE ANOTHER BISCUIT.
I always forget that I can actually chuck my kids out, school holidays is a great time to be outside. So I tried it, and my kids’ were like, THERE’S NOTHING TO DO OUTSIDE.
So I made them a checklist (snap) and told them that they could watch Youtube when they had done all the things on it. And they never came back. They drew bugs, decorated some rocks, made a tent and then got lost in some awesome theatrical game together.
The checklist never ended up getting finished, and that’s cool. It did its job, and they enjoyed their day at home.
I hope it has the same effect on your kids.
