You know when the cold air hits for the first time in a year and you open your kids’ wardrobe and there is NOTHING in there that fits them? Yeah, well that’s where my kids’ wardrobe is at right now. I legit walked around Kmart with all the other parents on the first cold day we had and was like, trackies; yep, long sleeved shirts; yep, socks; yep.
The thing is I love supporting small Aussie brands but not many parents can afford to dress their kids from them. I certainly can’t afford to dress my kids exclusively from small Aussie brands. I get that for clothes to be made ethically and environmentally they have to cost more than $7 an item. I 100% support that and I love buying these things when I can, but I still can’t afford whole wardrobes full of them.
And this is why when I invest in beautiful items, I need them to be tough. Like six-hours-at-the-skate-park-a-week-tough, like my-kids-spend-more-time-in-trees-than-not-tough. Like pre-school-to-gymnastics-tough.
My kids are seven and almost 5, because of what I do for a living I have had the pleasure of trialling lots of awesome Aussie kids clothing. Over the years there have been a few brands that I have fallen in love with, not just because of their funky style but also because they last forever. My son has Minti trackies that have lasted 3 years (I bought them two sizes too big because they were on sale) and they still look brand new. He also has Oshi M pants that are the same.
My daughter (who has gymnastics induced grass stains on everything she wears) has clothing from Paper Wings that have been soaked and washed weekly for a year and haven’t faded. Her Milk and Masuki gear just keeps on giving.
So I wanted to share some of my faves kids clothing that is worth the money (in my opinion) and made for play – not for posing!
Enjoy,
Babs
