Freezer Smoothie Bags – Finding Organisation

July 4, 2016

If I’m honest, food is the first ball to drop in my world when things are busy. So I am fool proofing my week with carrot sticks chopped and ready in glass jars (because I need to see them yelling at me,) chia puddings in glass bowls in the fridge and some smoothie bags waiting in the freezer. Let me explain that last one to you.

I'm thinking that it may be time to re-visit my Finding Organisation series.

I already told you guys about my new job, which is about 25 hours per week, it's not like I'm working full time or anything, but it is a big change for our little family.

I take my hat off to any two-parent-full-time-working family, wow, that is impressive.

So as I was saying, I need to be embracing organisation right now,  if I want to continue with my little blog (which I do) and attempt to exercise every so often, and also feed my family things that don't come out of a box at least once a day then I need to get a system going.

Because if I'm honest, food is the first ball to drop in my world when things are busy. So I am fool proofing my week with carrot sticks chopped and ready in glass jars (because I need to see them yelling at me,) chia puddings in glass bowls in the fridge and some smoothie bags waiting in the freezer.

What the hell are smoothie bags? Yeah, good question; they are cute little baggies (which I reuse) full of all the ingredients to make one adult or two kids smoothies. So all you do is grab one, pour it into the bullet blender thingy and add milk. So easy!

Ingredients

A handfull of strawberries
Half a frozen banana
A tablespoon of chia seeds
A tablespoon of almonds

Directions

Line up ten bags on the counter and pop all the ingredients in each one then put them in the freezer. When you're ready for a smoothie just pour the contents in the blender (I find having a bullet style blender, always plugged in on the counter or in the cupboard is the best thing ever) and add some milk, I use almond milk. Then put the empty bag back in the freezer to use it next time. And blend, super simple.

Other things we put in smoothes sometimes.

  • Spinach leaves (blend them smooth with the milk before you add anything else)
  • Other berries
  • Mango
  • Buckwheat
  • Yogurt
  • Coconut cream
  • You get the picture

These go really well with freezer french toast, just sayin.
