Just sharing a little step by step of how I created these Instagram Flatlays for #7vignettes. Hope you enjoy.
How are you? I had a lovely week off blogging, man it was a busy though.
Any-who, have you heard of 7 Vignettes? This cool blogger called Jen (from a little site called Interiors Addict) runs this monthly challenge called #7vignettes.
It's basically just a list of prompts that Instagrammers use to create vignettes. It goes for the first week of every month and it's pretty fun. This month the prompts are; white on white, minimal, romantic, colour, bright, texture and timber.
If you're not sure what a Vignette is then just check out the link below.
You back? Got it? Cool. Well this month I thought I would give it a burl, even though the prompts aren't really the type of things you see in my feed. Minimal, no. Romantic, not so much. But you can't let these things hold you back now, can you?
I just wanted to give you a quick run-down of how I created my flatlays. Just incase you're curious.
I used.
One white sheet – the more crinkled the better.
An overcast day – awesome because the light is defused and only casts a soft shadow.
Space on the floor in front of a window – I like the floor because it's easier to see what I'm doing.
Pretty things – all the prompts were there, I just needed to find the stuff, so much easier than trying to figure out what to photograph without prompting.
iPhone camera – it's great in good light and also, done is just SO much better than perfect. I'm a bit ADD so this way there is less chance of distraction
VSCOcam F2 filter – because best app ever/best filter ever.
Then bump up the brightness to +2 and the warmth to +1 – because it looked good at the time.
And there you have it, there's were created in a room full of kids aged 2-10, Indianna Jones was blaring in the background whilst one Squawking toddler kept trying to drag the sheet away.
I'm really pleased with the results! So there you go, blog break over, happy Monday darlings. xox

Has that week gone already? Man time flies xx

They’re pretty, Babs. I am so happy that crushed clothes and paper are in vogue. The ironing used to near kill me. I don’t like to iron… x
Patchwork Cactus
Yup, and amazingly it was the busiest week ever so I’m so glad I didn’t have the extra pressure on!
Patchwork Cactus
Well you need to step into my world, we have an iron but it’s for waxing snowboards so I couldn’t put it on a sheet if I wanted to. Hehe xo

Thanks for the insight into your vignettes. I’m enjoying being part of the challenge. I love that you created all of your vignettes on the one day, something I endeavor to do each month but haven’t quite achieved yet. It’s a good way to ensure there’s a ‘theme’ or a constant in your vignettes. White sheet a perfect backdrop & simple additions always a winner.

Oh god, I cannot flat lay for the life of me! Yours are so pretty.
Jenni from Styling Curvy
I need to get on this! I’m forever creating new vignettes all over the house (frustrated wannabe interior stylist).
Patchwork Cactus
You’re so so welcome. I knew if I didn’t do them all in one go then I would get sidetracked and put it off until next month AGAIN.
Patchwork Cactus
Hehe, I know how you feel, this is not a skill that came naturally! But I feel like (with the help of VSCOcam) I am finally getting the hang! Thanks luv!
Patchwork Cactus
You should!!!! I would love to see them xoxo
