Do you have some seriously ugly pots hanging around your yard? I did, but now I don’t. Upcycle for the win! I love spraypaint.
I broke out the paint yesterday. I had an itching to do a little project around the house and our frond deck was looking particularly getto so I decided to start with it. First thing we did was remove all the prams and bikes, seriously, we only have two kids, why so much STUFF?
Then we broke out the gurney, and changed the colour of everything on the deck. The cladding, the screen door, the windows. Yup, apparently we are total grubs.
Then it was time for the fun stuff. We had these two old dirty pots that came with the house and had some hideously ugly plants in them – why had I let them sit on my deck for over a year, why? I can't even share the before picture of these pots because they were SO ugly.
I'm glad to report that now they are not, I'm going to go so far as to say that they are fresh, funky and totally on trend. They have that whole paint dipped vibe and I'm feeling them now.
*Because I just wanted a quick upcycle, using only stuff I had in the shed – the type of paint I used is only good for pots that live undercover. For outside pots make sure you add some type of varnish or use outdoor paint.
Materials
Two old and ugly pots
Some white paint – I used wall and ceiling paint
A can blue of glossy spraypaint
Some masking tape
A newspaper
Some clear varnish to seal the paint if they are going to be exposed to the elements
Directions
Give the pots a quick wash then when they are dry give them a rub down with a dry sponge to remove any excess stuff. Now paint them, including the inside, no need to be precious, especially on the bottom bit where you are going to spray. When they are dry, tape the paper to the pots so only the bottoms of them are exposed. Next spray paint them whatever colour you want and put some type of awesome plant in them. If you are putting a cactus in then wear gloves so you don't have to spend the evening curled up with a glass a wine and a pair of tweezers. Just sayin.
