Little Patchwork House – A renovation update

September 2, 2015

We have been slowly renovating our little patchwork house for a while now, so I thought it was time to share some before and after pictures of our living space. Welcome to our home. xox Babs

I have been busy sharing pictures of our renovation over on Instagram but I haven't really shared much here. Sometimes I get a bit obsessed with Insta and forget that not everyone lives there.

It was about time to put together this post so my lovely friend Bec AKA Pinch Me Beautiful came round to photograph the living room (she's pretty handy with a camera) while I dug up some pictures of what the place looked like the day we moved in. Let me walk you through it.

Below is the original room, it was a rental for years and the tenants had rugs everywhere so we had no idea of the state of the carpet, we lasted about ten minutes before Pac Man and my dad ripped it up to reveal the patchwork floor. Yes, there was wood floors under some of it, but there were also chipboard and concrete patches.

So above is what it looks like complete with new plywood floors where the chipboard was, skirting boards, paint, architraves and blinds, just a tad different.

We went for modern, clean lines and white everywhere. I really wanted it to be a blank canvass that we could add colour to. Also, I really wanted the light to bounce around because although the window is huge, it is the only one in the entire living area. That light has to make it all the way down the hallway.

Below is the view from that window, towards the back of the house. The two bedrooms are off the hallway, where that super stylish bin is, is the entrance to the kitchen and the front door is to the left. That tiny baby in the rocker is Squawk, sob. We replaced his rocker with a dining table. And the watering can? Now there is an awesome Osburn fireplace there.

And because Bec and I are two work at home mums, I had to include a picture of Squawk and his arch nemesis enjoying lunch. Both of their big sisters were at preschool that day so it was a tad easier. Also, funny fact, our hubbies have been besties since they were three and seeing the little boys hanging together absolutely melts my heart.

That crusty little corner you see above became my beautiful light-filled office, otherwise known as Patchwork HQ. You can find all the details about that space here.

Also, how good are complete perfectionist, hardworking handy hubbies that can do all of this rad stuff themselves. Without Pac Man this would not have happened because god knows we wouldn't have been able to pay tradies to do it all. And because he's so cool I'm going to start doing some home DIY style posts on the blog, first up we are going to walk you through putting down a plywood floor. Watch this space.

** BIG THANKS TO BEC FOR TAKING THE GORGEOUS PICTURES. XOXO

This couch is a godsend, it’s not as stylo as some of the ones I am coveting, but you can totally spray and wipe that badboy! Plus it makes cushions look nice and bright.

I bet those two boys get up to all sorts of mischief together. Too cute! And Bec takes such lovely photos. She’s a clever one.
